Yes, anon. We should limit the amount of children people should have. That will work out so very well. And while we're at it, why don't we kill all those pesky old people who are still alive thanks to modern medical advances - they should be dead by now, after all.

We won't have to worry about having enough of a younger generation to support society once we get to retiring age, either! I really feel like working to my deathbed.

(But in all seriousness - resource-wise, our issue is not food or food production. It's not even oil and natural gas; these things can and will be replaced with sustainable energy sources once it becomes clear that it is our only option (Anyone who tells you this will be a faster transition is fooling themselves - oil execs have their hands in too many pies for it to happen any other way). Our issue will be POTABLE WATER. Mark my words, the next war fought will be over either Oil or Water. Maybe even both.)

I am not at all confident of this. We're so used to fossil fuels that we don't realise how remarkable, and in many ways unique, they are. These vast super-concentrated energy sources that also have thousands of uses in industry, chemistry, agriculture, etc... replacing them will be extremely difficult. If possible at all.

Although I completely agree that the problems the world is facing in regard to resources and distribution are far more complicated than OP is acknowledging and it's not just a question of adjusting the birth rate...I really don't think you're doing your point any favors by equating "we need to take steps to limit the birth rate and consider population control before these people are born" with "we need to exterminate an already living segment of the population."

Adding to the doom and gloom: There is no such thing as a sustainable energy source with any current technology. Solar, geothermal, hydroelectric -- they all have HUGE externalities, mostly related to the pollution and environmental damage wrought by their construction. To power the grid of an overpopulated world will render that world a smoggy hell-hole in time, no matter how clean that power source seems to be.

Actually that's just hydroelectric dams. Solar panels are fine, the energy is just diffuse and not efficient, and geothermal is just dangerous.
