It's really weird how some people in this thread are implying that fiction doesn't affect reality. Of course fiction affects reality! I would think that anyone reading fandomsecrets would know that already.

I say this as someone who adores kids and hopes to raise some eventually: I absolutely agree that there is way too much emphasis in the media on having children. How many fictional happy endings are marked by pregnancies? It's so backwards; having kids is a beginning, not an ending. It also suggests that an ending without kids isn't necessarily happy. For some (like me, maybe), that might be true, but certainly not for everyone, and we need to be normalizing different types of life choices to keep people from feeling the need to shoehorn themselves into what they think are the only acceptable roles. If every child in the world were wanted - really, really wanted, not just born out of a vague sense of duty or whatever - every child in the world would be loved.
