This!

Loki was well-socialised as a child, loved by his family, probably no more accidentally messed up by sibling rivalry and daddy issues than most people. And yet his response to his self-esteem issues is 'okay, I'll wipe out the entire race I came from, because they suck and it'll please Dad.'

Although, with the home town I'm from, I'm quite happy to have him as an example. Next time I have a confidence crisis I'm going back there with nukes. ;)

Movie canon =/= comics canon =/= Norse myths

Exactly, thanks! I was talking only about the film, since the film specifically was the basis of the secret.

haha for real

[identity profile] pet-lunatic.livejournal.com 2011-11-13 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I'm well aware that this happened in the myths.

I was talking specifically about the *film*, which obviously doesn't follow the myths all that much. By all means correct me if I'm not remembering properly, but based on the film, Loki's adoptive family seemed to treat him with love and respect when he was a child. I don't recall any reference to abuse or mistreatment, anyway. Sure, Odin's not going to win dad of the year even based on the film, but that isn't an excuse to do the things Loki did, and IIRC his mother and brother were never shown to treat him badly at all.

Odin did not raise Loki in the myths. They were blood-brothers.

Myth!Loki also doesn't feel very fatherly motherly about Sleipnir, since, you know, he's a horse and all that.

You should stop seeing the mythological Aesir so much as people.
