*nods* There's a serious power dynamic that keeps me personally from shipping the Doctor with any of his human companions. YMMV.

That said -- if you watch the episodes of Three carefully, you can catch Jon ogling Katie's... anatomy and even copping a feel on some occasions. But that's strictly RL.

And I DO see more than a twinge of romance in 3's relationship with Jo. If it had simply been paternal or mentor/student he would have stayed for her engagement party and toasted her happiness with a whole heart (er, hearts) instead of creeping away to sadly drive Betsy into the sunset and making me sniffle, damn it!

*shrugs* I'm very much not a het shipper, but I do think there was something romantic in the Doctor's feelings for Jo (and vice versa). I don't think it was as simple as being "in love with," and I think it probably was mixed with strong platonic friendship and some parent-child and mentor-protegé dynamics, but that doesn't mean it didn't exist. People's feelings are complicated and often not easily categorizable.

I read Three's interactions with Jo as both a very close mentor/protege relationship (which can certainly feel familial, although I think parental might be stretching it a bit) and somewhat romantic, although perhaps not exactly sexual. Which one was uppermost tended to depend on who was writing the episode and whether Pertwee remembered where her eyes were.

I kid, I kid. I ship them like it's my job, but I certainly don't see their relationship as unambiguously romantic - there's elements of paternal/filial feeling and close platonic friendship there too. I just...kinda can't remove the romantic element myself.

Mostly I'm just joyous to see a Three-era secret. :D

Actually and I may be wrong in this but I think Jo got the most Doctor!Hugs out of any other Classic Who companion. Except most likely Susan...and Jamie. ^_^

I do get where you're coming from but....damnit, Three/Jo are so darn cute!*

But even if you don't 'get it' when it comes to a ship, others clearly do and even rational reasons for why it wouldn't happen doesn't stop us - if anything it makes us ship it harder LOL. Best just to live and let ship, anon. Otherwise the internet will drive you to insanity.

*For the record, I don't think they'd work as a long-term couple or anything. The only ship I have in DW that's actually serious is Doctor/TARDIS and even that's kind of "..eh." But it doesn't stop me having fun with other on-the-side-pairings. ;)

YMMV, of course, and that's the fun of individuality. But Three/Jo is one of the few Doctor/Companion pairings I really ship and I think it's additionally bittersweet because of how it ends.

And of course, secrets like this just makes me want to right really filthy porny Three/Jo, with all the complications that their father/daughter, platonic, age and alien/human issues would bring to. :D

I totally agree. Despite all the snuggles and cuteness, I can't ship them because I get such a granddaughter-grandfather (of awesome) vibe from them.
