Nicki (short for Nicholas) was Lestat's BFF back when he was alive, basically- he was a musician and they went to Paris and lived, worked, and got drunk together. Lestat tried to turn him into a vampire but he went insane soooo that was not one of Lestat's better life decisions not that he really made any.

I feel like Louis was more entertaining to be around for Lestat than Nicki, even though they didn't get along quite as well and Nicki and Lestat did. They were also together much longer and went through more "relationship" stuff than Lestat and Nicki ever did.

...I thought this was canon? And by that I mean I thought Lestat actually stated this at some point. But I'm definitely not an expert on the books, and Lestat isn't a particularly reliable narrator, so.

Who have you been talking to? This opinion was so popular that I felt like a freak for thinking that Lestat didn't have a One True Love, let alone that it was Louis. Admittedly, I want to sucker punch the fuck out of Louis, and that may be slightly clouding my judgement, but... you're so not alone, man. Go do things that totally don't involve 'fic' and 'fan' with your compatriots!

I never felt that Louis was Lestat's ~one true love~, but at the same time, I got more of a best friends forever turned stalkerish turned horrible life decision turned eternal mopey guilt and regret vibe about Lestat and Nicholas, so... who knows.

Ah~, same. :D I mean, it's been... more than ten years since I've read them, but I always felt like David was Lestat's... grounding stone as it were? He sort of kept him in line and in touch with humanity.

Thankfully Anne Rise wasn't a stepford mom like Stefenie Meyer and her vampires were more like the mythical creatures from the fables and less like metaphors for Mormonism, so it's more than likely that Lestat *loved* his progeny like all daddy vampires do.

Half agree; I think that Lestat loved Louis, but that he loved Nicki... if not more than in an entirely different way that somehow came across as more dependent to me. I stopped reading partway through Tale of the Body Thief, though, so I'm not sure what if anything later books had to say on the matter.

I don't think your opinion is out of place or incredibly weird, though. I can see where you'd reach that conclusion, and I don't think it's some huge misreading of the books. Just differing opinions/interpretations.

I agree with you OP. I am pretty sure there are more Lestat/Louis fans than there are Lestat/Nicki fans. At the very least, I'm a Lestat/Louis fan. *hugs*

If mortals can have more than one great love in their live, vampires, who live for centuries, are surely allowed! (This is what weirds me out about Twilight tbh. Amongst MANY other things.) But yes, I do agree with you.
