I agree. He's my favorite Madoka character and no, I don't drown kittens in my free time. I just understand his motives and don't judge him for that. If you could save your entire species/planet/world by torturing some amount of ants would you do that? Sure, what he did was terrible from out point of view, but why should he care?

I think, beyond the whole 'saving the universe', it's just unreasonable to call him evil because he just, he has no emotions?! So judging something that cannot possess empathy for doing shit that is just objectively quite reasonable, while awful to us, is just looking at it from the wrong perspective (tm). The fact that he's saving the universe is pretty much a bonus imo. xD

I know he gives quite a kneejerk reaction of OH MY GOD THAT AWFUL THING which... is true, but I can see why it makes sense to him. I'm not saying people can't hate him or want to punch him in the tail, I just think people calling him 'evil' is kind of funny. But I also acknowledge that by saying that I understand his POV I'm probably being pretty creeptastic myself xD

(also I didn't see the big deal about people's souls being turned into gems dsaflhdf I am a horrible person? idk)

Queen Sebastian, whose new husband was already boring the shit out of his pampered ass, found something new to focus his wrath on.

The absent's King's son, that milquetoast called Kurt, with his sunny disposition, his shitty singing with his shitty bird and other woodland creatures, and his untampered-with-ass in his padded silk balloon shorts. What Sebastian hated most of all were Kurt's babby teeth, his turned up nose, and those lips that looked perfect for cock sucking but still hadn't gone there.

The last straw was Blaine, a princeling from a neighboring kingdom showing up, and paying tribute to Kurt. Not Sebastian, who he regarded as a mere concubine.

Queen Sebastian gave his loyal huntsman, the fearsome Karofsky, the order to take Kurt out into the woods, cut him up slowly then string him up from a tree, and bring him back the boy's skin.

LMAO, I remember that episode where everyone freaked out about that, I though it was the coolest thing ever. Because seriously? Right now we have fragile body and soul that "dies" then the body is hurt badly. Magical girls have super strong bodies that can protect their soul in the little gems way better - how is this not more useful than having the soul connected to the body?

Kyubey's a classic case of blue-and-orange morality. I don't think he's right, but I wouldn't say he's wrong, either.

(I don't see the big deal about soul gems either. I'm really forgetful, so my biggest problem with it would be trying not to lose my gem...)

I don't see any big deal with the Soul Gems either -- which is pretty weird to say from this account -- but I can see why the girls would. Their reactions are pretty understandable for fourteen year olds who seemed to think that "soul outside the body" = "dead body" = "we're dead/zombies." Kyuubey actually understands how human bodies work better than most humans do, when you think about it, with the your bodies are just hardware" thing.

I think it was also the shock of HOW they found out... not to mention the fact that, yeah, Kyuubey said with the Soul Gems they can pick them up and protect them, but while I'm not going to argue that the gems made them much less vulnerable to pain and damage to their actual bodies, I don't buy that they're that easy to protect. He just gave them one exceptionally vital point, one that in many cases was in a fairly vulnerable spot when they were in magical girl mode (Kyoko's being on her chest, Sayaka's being on her stomach, Mami's being in her hair, etc.). Obviously, Witches aren't going to zero in on their weak points, at least not on purpose, but when you consider that Kyoko slammed her spear into Sayaka's gut during their initial fight, she could have easily killed her if she'd actually hit the Soul Gem.

BUT YEAH, ALL THAT RAMBLING ASIDE, Kyuubey isn't evil. He's clearly psychopathic from a human point of view (though we're all psychopathic from an Incubator point of view, to be fair), and he clearly lies about not understanding what it means to trick people, but everything he's doing makes total sense from an emotionless, big-picture point of view. I can want to punch him, but I can't actually bring myself to hate him. (Especially since I have unfounded theories that he was counting on Madoka to do exactly what she did at the end of the series.)

I suppose he shouldn't.

But there's something wrong with the ants if they don't hate him.
