I would agree, but when he finally turns into a human the first thing done, cinematography-wise, is light him with a light source from below him (as memory recalls.) When you light like that, generally the intention is to make the subject lookinhuman, disfigured, unnatural, or if the movie is trying to go with really realistic lighting (which definitely isn't the case, seeing as it's disney) and it's been established that the light source is below. So to light the prince light that is the filmmakers intentionally making him unattractive.

At least, that could be one interpretation of it.

Well in the audio commentary they sorta complain that no design for the human would've ever made the audience happy because they spent the whole movie convincing them to love the beast as a beast, I'm not sure if that supports your theory.
