The only song on that album that makes me misty-eyed is Vanilla Twilight, but I love every song on that album. I like that this music is genuinely optimistic and lighthearted. So much music is sad or depressing and it's nice to find something different!

I used to get misty-eyed at Meteor Showers. I don't understand the huge hate for Owl City. It isn't going to be musical history, but what's wrong with enjoying a really sweet, light-hearted song?

[identity profile] deadtree.livejournal.com 2011-11-25 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
gosh, Meteor Showers gets me every time!

[identity profile] gabrielsoboe.livejournal.com 2011-11-24 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh god, Vanilla Twilight. </3 That song pulled me through a recent death of a classmate.

Aww. :( *hugs* Sorry for your loss.

[identity profile] les-lenne.livejournal.com 2011-11-24 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I like ridiculously catchy songs and idc if "they all sound the same" to everyone else. :B

Although I agree with [livejournal.com profile] urplesquirrel, Vanilla Twilight is the only one that ... well, doesn't make me cry, but it makes me feel pretty damn sad.

I feel you! Most songs (not only on his Ocean Eyes album) by Owl City are beautiful enough to bring me to tears and all people talk about is, "Owl City sounds like The Postal Service only worse!" I'm glad someone feels the same as I do. ♥

[identity profile] rosehiptea.livejournal.com 2011-11-24 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
The Postal Service is bad?

(I don't think Owl City is bad either.)

[identity profile] grypho76.livejournal.com 2011-11-24 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I hear you, OP.
Though I only like four of them, I'm exceedingly fond of this man's work and his astoundingly beautiful voice.
The only one that can make me cry, though; is "Galaxies".
I wish I could capture the way that song makes me feel and hold onto it forever.

[identity profile] urplesquirrel.livejournal.com 2011-11-24 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, Galaxies is probably the song I like least. It's so Christian rock-y. I'm glad you get something out of it, though.

[identity profile] grypho76.livejournal.com 2011-11-25 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed on the tone of the lyrics, but it's the tone of voice he hits there that just gets me.
Thus, I chose to interpret it as a dude in a rocketship exclaiming about how effing awesome he is as he takes off. :)

[identity profile] deadtree.livejournal.com 2011-11-25 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
agreed, agreed; the moment when he bursts into the chorus is just euphoric. I know I sound like a nerd, but I don't care, I listen to Owl City every day, or it's not a good day :p

[identity profile] grypho76.livejournal.com 2011-11-25 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I hear you, guh, that voice... <3 It puts things into perspective like few others can.
Makes for a lovely morning drive. :)

Seconding the above commenter who said that they like that his music is genuinely optimistic, that's hard to find these days and I enjoy it. The remix of "Hello Seattle" is my JAM and once I had to work at some obscene hour like 6:00am and did some intense grooving out in my kitchen to that song to get myself awake. I was in a fantastic mood the entire day, despite the early wakeup call.

And despite the fact that it was severely overplayed at my work, I will always sing along to "Fireflies".

[identity profile] immortality.livejournal.com 2011-11-24 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't care if the songs sound all the same, because I like how they sound. They're light and optimistic and easy to listen to.

TW: death of a friend

[identity profile] zalixethbe.livejournal.com 2011-11-24 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
The album makes me teary too, but for different reasons. The song "Fireflies" will always remind me of a friend of mine who was killed in a car accident right around when that song became popular. I'm not really sure why the association is so strong for me- I know he and I once had a conversation about how he liked the song, though. I think it's also that its such a happy and light-hearted song, and Greg was such a happy and light-hearted guy. Idk. Somehow my brain has made the connection, and I can't disconnect it, and I'm not sure if I really want to. But yeah. Definitely makes me tear up. :/

[identity profile] smittenlotus.livejournal.com 2011-11-24 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Owl City. Haters to the left.

[identity profile] cure-light.livejournal.com 2011-11-25 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
YES. I love you, OP. <3

[identity profile] paopaotang.livejournal.com 2011-11-25 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
I cry whenever I find out people are actually emotionally compromised by Owl City
