But ... why do you assume you'd be rubbing it in? If your f-list is, as you say, happy to be totally immersed in fandom as opposed to "real life", then why would they care? I don't think I follow your logic.

Bleh. Just post. tbh your life probably isn't as interesting as you think it is (other people's lives are rarely interesting unless you are that person).

I don't think it's about "interesting." I remember when I was in highschool and early college, I'd get really upset at people over all sorts of stuff that comes down to "I am jealous that you have more friends and are more busy than I am" and I think that's what the OP wants to avoid, because OP felt the same as I used to.

I used to feel like a failure for not having a very active social life, but even when I read about other people's busy life I didn't feel like they were rubbing it in.

Our lives are always interesting to us, but not always to other people. Don't feel bad for posting about your life, anon. Your f-list probably wouldn't care because they've got enough to focus on in their lives.

You're only seeing the fandom side of your friends' lives. They're only seeing the fandom side of your life. While you're thinking they have no social life and don't want to rub yours in their faces, they may be thinking that you have no social life and don't want to rub theirs in your face. A lot of people keep their RL and fandom life separate - they may post on their LJ about certain aspects of their RL, but they're not going to report every instance they went out with friends. They don't say "I went to school/college/work today" every day, complete with a run down of what they said to whom. So judging the extent of their social lives is impossible and it'd probably be easier to just not try.

Especially if they're fen from the web 1.0 days when people in general kept a much stricter separation between their online and offline lives.

To be fair, I used to be envious of people who had offline, or even online social lives. Now that I have a bit of a life I feel very slightly envious of the hermits. Human beings, we're never satisfied :)

Most likely they just don't want to mix real life with their fandom.

You could always just make a post and ask them if it would be all right with them if you talk about non-fandom stuff. Or if they would rather your journal was just fandom. :)

Another "how do you know they don't keep things separate, too?" here.

A lot of people's LJs are mostly or entirely for fandom, and some people have separate accounts for personal stuff that they only share with people they know IRL. It can be hard to get a sense of what someone is doing just from their LJ posts. Personally, I'm really weird about privacy, so there's a lot I don't share.

Another angle, too: not everyone who lacks a busy social life is necessarily upset about that. I've always been more of an observer than a participator, and sometimes I enjoy hearing about the things my friends get up to that I don't. Occasionally, I'll be a little jealous. But mostly it's fun to hear about it. It makes me feel included, when actually doing some of the stuff might be overwhelming.

I'm sorta in the same boat, OP.

I've stopped talking about my life, even to my friends.

I'm the only one out of all my friends to have a good job, my own apartment, spending money to go out and do things...and I feel like I rub it in when I talk about my life actually being great when all of my friends both online and off are still living with their parents and making minimum wage-if they even have jobs.

The worst part is they all have degrees, I dropped out. :/

I...don't get it. Why do these OP's think anyone on fandom secrets/ gives a shit if they, like, go out on dates or whatever? Sorry, OP, I *might* think about the sex lives of the hot celebrities on the TV shows I like, but you can be DAMN sure I *don't* give a crap about yours, mmmkay? I mean this secret is not as overtly dick-ish as most of them, but still.

I dunno but my RL fluctuates - sometimes it's busybusybusy, sometimes it's lagging and I feel like I don't even have one.

And sometimes I want to read about my flist's RL, but then sometimes I really don't feel like it.

I dunno, just post a little bit and see how u go.
