I have a good relationship with my brother and I can still ship incest. Because the relationship isn't anything like the fictional ones I ship. Admittedly because I generally only ship relationships that are unhealthy and/or obsessive, but...

But really, I ship bffs without wanting to bang my own.

So much of ALL OF THIS. Why can I not find a "you just pointed to all of me" gif or youtube clip for this?!

I can ship incest because I can separate fiction from reality. It really does help that a lot of the relationships that I can see evolving into incest are already so twisted and beyond the realm of me being able to self-insert. And even if I do feel the need to ship two siblings that have a perfectly healthy relationship with each other, it tends to be in a bizzare situation.

... Either that, or I just got bored and gave up all pretense of actual characterization and just went with it for the sake of amusing myself......

But seriously, just because I'm willing to overlook a behavior in fiction doesn't mean I'm willing to overlook it in real life. These are not the same things, and I don't know why some people feel the need to pretend they are.
