There are plenty of ugly celebrities. Make-up really does wonders.

This. A chunk of them look like higher end highschool girls without the makeup/lighting/team of people whose job is to make them look good, which includes doctoring photos. They look good, but not Hollywood good.

I'm not denying that a few are just GORGEOUS all around, but they're rare. Especially these days. /opinion

Some people really don't get just HOW MUCH makeup can change the way you look. It's not just about colors and glam. In the hands of a professional it's all in the foundation and blush. If applied with the right shades it can easily trick the eye into thinking there are shadows and contures that just don't exist. It can make a wide nose bridge appear narrow, smaller lips fuller, matte skin glow and appear younger, etc.

Not to mention the amount of celebrities that have gotten plastic surgery done. If you are talented, but maybe got a big nose there will be someone who will offer to pay for you to get it fixed, so it's not even about the money.

She honestly looks okay to me either way. The direct light on her face is kind of unflattering without the makeup to soften it (same as it would be on anyone), but she doesn't look like a totally different person or anything.

THIS. Even over-the-counter products and tips from the Internet, untrained "home users" can make drastic alterations to their appearance -- I know a lady who has flawless skin, deep eyes, and a statuesque "Nordic" face with makeup (she even dyes her red hair blonde to complete the look). As soon as she washes her face, you could see she's Irish on both sides all the way back, and with freckles to boot. She literally has people think she's ill when she doesn't have her makeup on, the difference is that much.
