Hush. Don't be silly. Everyone knows fiction and real life are one and the same and that what you like in fic is a CLEAR indication of the horrible things you do in real life.

If that was true, no one would ever be triggered or squicked by anything in fanfic, because it's only fiction. Rational people are able to seperate the two logically, but emotionally? Not so much, and shame on you for implying that "rational" people don't have this problem. Everyone is different.

Uhhhh...this reply seems...harsh. This anon didn't say that they want to spit on every single person who has ever been squicked or triggered by fiction ever. They were just saying that reading about something often doesn't translate to real life. I don't like war, and I don't want the world to end, but I don't yell at everyone who plays war video games or like post-apocalyptic fiction.

I easily connect to character relationships if it is similar to what I have. I know it's not the same, but it still feels awkward when I think about it just because it hits close to home. I assume the OP was not implying that ALL INCEST IS GROSS AND NO ONE SHOULD EVER SHIP IT EVER. They were just giving a reason why they don't. It feels like a lot of people are getting really defensive when there really isn't any reason to? Some people don't ship x because of y reasons while others do. That's alright.
