I never really understood that argument at all. But maybe that is, because if I shipped incest it was always more for the fucked-up character dynamics (my incest ships included for example Zuko/Azula and Neji/Hinata), than for the ~incest tabu~.

Still, sorry your kink was ruined and congratulations for your improved relationship with your brother.

Yeah, I don't get off on firecest at all but it's more of a case that that family is completely f'd up and I could see it happening. As another fan of the show once said to me, surprisingly incest would be just one of several disturbing things which that family could get up to. I mean they arrange to kill and betray each other, abuse each other either physically or psychologically (well mostly just Zuko in that last one). Iroh and Zuko, when Ursa leaves have the only thing that even resembles a normal family relationship at all. Even though Azula is daddy's favourite, it doesn't smell right either, like a close father-daughter relationship should be.

Zuko craves acceptance from his family, mostly his father, and he's willing to do anything he can to get it for a long time in the show.

And it would be JUST like Azula to do something like that to just mess with Zuko's head and hold something over him, or even simply because she's messed up herself. Plus they're royal- lots of incestuous potential there with all the cousins they possibly married in the past. (Ursa= attempt to get new unrelated blood?)

Yeah, I don't get Watercest since they seem like too much of a regular family, but Firecest makes a bit too much sense- but whatever floats the shippers boats I guess.

That's because neither of them know how to function in what we would consider a normal familial way. Their emotional constructs prevent them from showing normal affection, even to each other. They regard each other as comrades more than father and daughter. There's zero inference in canon of anything weird between them, so I hope you're not suggesting hints of incest. You won't find any.

No, it would not be "JUST like Azula" to come on to her brother to mess with his head. I think you're reading into that so-called "bedroom scene" far too much. Azula is not a sensual character in the least; she dominates through aggression and power. Why would you think she'd employ sexuality just to mess with him? She's already plenty skilled at it in the ways I just listed; plus, there's nothing in canon to suggest an attraction to him. That's the shippers talking.

Just because she's messed up -- and she undoubtedly is -- doesn't mean it translates into desiring her brother. It's actually kind of annoying to continue reading that point ad nauseum whenever people discuss her issues. It isn't even true. It's called "alternate character interpretation", and it's certainly not a universally accepted construct.

Though I can see Zuko crossing the invisible boundary in order to obtain his father's love; he's desperate and obsessed (in ways Azula most certainly isn't with either her brother or father, interestingly enough).

While I do not personally have any interest in this ship, I think your logic is flawed. Rape and/or sexual abuse is quite often more about power and control than sensuality. On the contrast, I would expect that the only way Azula approaches sex would be through force and coercion, since she doesn't know how to connect on an intimate level normally (see also the Beach arc.)

I'm not tryin' to say that Azula is a rapist. I'm just saying the fact that she is a power-gamer and a dominant personality rather than a 'sensual character' does not rule out the possibility of sexual assault.

There is nothing hinting, let alone directly indicating, a propensity for rape or sexual assault by this character in canon, and that's what I'm referencing; therefore, my logic isn't "flawed". I'm not talking about an alternate reality where characters are speculated to do darker things because they were "hindered" by the network or audience sensitivities. Azula was written as a villain who cowed people through her forceful personality and bending prowess. Nothing more. You can theorize all you want outside of the show, but to correlate any behavior she displayed on-screen with the possibility of her being a closet sexual predator... no.

That rape/sexual assault is quite often more about power and control than sensuality still relies on the character's interest in engaging in such activities, which was never denoted with Azula. To make such heavy-handed claims requires far more in the way of proof than what we were given. This, again, seems more like alternate character interpretation than something found in strict canon text.

Possibly. But that's acting under the assumption she'd even be interested in sex at all.

I always agreed that Azula wouldn't rule out anything when it came to messing with Zuko's head, and from another angle, she had serious trust and intimacy issues, and has trouble connecting to normal people, but Zuko has always tolerated her shit without being dominated by it, and is probably one of the only people she trusts (if only because she thinks he's too dumb to backstab her the way she would him) so I could see that happening.
