Isn't that the point though? Yuna (and everyone else who followed Yevon) didn't think for herself. She grew up with a role and was expected to fulfil it, even though it would lead to her death. She knew she was a sacrificial maiden, but she was basically brainwashed into believing her death was the only way to bring (momentary) peace to the world.

Though I don't think that makes her a weak character imo. She was strong with what she was given, and remained fearless even though she knew what would happen at the end of her pilgrimage. Not to mention she kicked a fair bit of ass during her journey (and even twice when she was kidnapped).

Just because everyone is equally brainwashed, that doesn't give Yuna a free pass. Clearly, YMMV when it comes to this character. She didn't stand up for herself nor think for herself and this made her weak in my eyes. The fact that she was fearless in the face of death made her weaker to me, because it just seemed to be a result of how brainwashed she was; having her waver in her expected duties would have not only made her seem stronger to me because she was going against everything that was expected at her, but it would have made her a lot more interesting. She really just follows her stereotypical character type.

She did at least manage to escape being kidnapped after the marriage ceremony, I'll give her that, but if I recall you have to save her the other time. (times?)
