(Actually, there was data released just a little while back that 30-40% of CoD players never touch the multiplayer, purchasing the game purely for the single player campaign and offline co-op and spec ops modes. That amounts to like eight million people playing the game for the campaign. Source. Uh... you're kinda wrong about that OP. Tons of people play the trilogy for the story, they're just not the kind of people who really talk about it a lot. Modern Warfare didn't just get game of the year because it looked good and you could shoot people.

Also I'm not ashamed to say that many manly tears were shed over here.

I play for the characters, tbh. I think they're interesting and it upsets me when they die. I'm really hoping Yuri somehow survived his wounds.
