I'm so sorry you had to go through that, OP.

If it's any consolation, I never liked Snape and could never understand how someone could see him as the woobie. He should have grown the hell up. Or at least kept his emotions in check in front of innocent children.

Seconding the anon's above sentiments.

I have a tiny, little spot of affection for Snape, but in my headcanon he learns to be less of a jerk to Harry (and apologizes to Neville, dammit) and both work through their issues with great effort and that changes the course of the war and enables the Order to bring down Voldemort with less losses and in the books and things work out for the best, and Harry and Snape bond over the happy memories of Lily and end up with a more or less amicable, but certainly respectful relationship. :>

None of that "he was the bravest man I knew; let us forget he was an asshole and I forgave just because he protected me out of a promise to the woman he hurt and got killed despite him never trying to make amends with me".

...You can tell I didn't like the course the plot took in the last three books. XP

To the not secret - actually, Ail & En WAS a filler arc. It was created because Naoko Takeuchi was still in the middle of publishing and creating the manga arc, so they did the Ail & En stuff to buy some time. They folded Sailor Moon getting the new weapon into the arc to force it to have some sort of relevance.

Personally, this arc is where SM got stupidly formulaic, and it continued all through R (which was horribly paced due to the filler arc) until it redeemed itself again in S. Of course, saying R was kind of a crappy season will get your head bitten of in the SM community.

IMO, the seasons are like such:

-First season of Sailor Moon is one of the better fairy tale stories ever told
-R is mediocre and too formulaic - as I said, the filler arc absolutely destroys any pacing they had. Neo Tokyo is kinda rad, but still, a lot of dumb stuff in this season
-S picks it back up by adding back in the humor while also have a more engaging story.
-SuperS falls back into formula, and makes the mistake of trying to change the main character of the show which pretty much destroys the season. Still, the art is improved a bit and the music is updated, so there's that.
-Stars is a pointy-edged, overly-formulaic and low-budget POS that ended the series on a really meh note.

So it goes Classic, S, R, SuperS, Stars.

I don't say this to any other SM fans I know, because I am pretty sure it would destroy some friendships. People take this stuff super seriously - trying to discuss it as just a show with pros and cons is not something that happens with Moonies. Plenty of them are convinced they could never date or marry someone who doesn't love SM like they do - reason is in short supply in this fandom.

Christ, that's awful. I'm sorry that happened to you, OP. (just cause it's on-topic, I like Snape, but that whole subplot did not suddenly make his years of being a total asshole suddenly okay. I like him BECAUSE he's an asshole but in the end still very much one of the good guys.)

As someone whose own Grandmother treated her like something to be scraped off her shoe, I'm sorry you had to go through that.

My father is Jewish, my mother is not. Funnily enough, it was my mother's mother who was most upset about this. She served my father ham the first time he was there for dinner, knowing he was Jewish. She treated my brother and I like second class citizens compared to my cousins, nevermind that my brother and I are both baptized Lutherans like our mother.

It's fucking ridiculous that in this day and age people are still so fucking judgmental about things like this, especially towards the innocent parties.

My brother and I had no choice in being born to people of two religions, and yet it was something she never let us forget. I hate to speak ill of the dead, but I found it very hard to be upset when she passed on when I was twelve.

I'm willing to bet your grandmother was Catholic? They're like that. Being from an Anabaptist tradition, the Catholic extended "family" was fond of saying I was going to "hell" because I wasn't sprinkled as a baby. Regardless of the fact I don't believe in "hell" in the first place....
