So much agreement on the subject of Megumi. I mean, seriously, she stole the principal's borg and attacked Kasumi with it. On the other hand, I also feel like the staff of the school sticks together because they're all basically the Drill Clan, kinda like how animals form packs and such. In other words, I feel like they couldn't fire Megumi despite her numerous failures because she was obligated to be there. (Although, seriously, if anything, I really wish Tomizawa explained things a little more thoroughly so that we can get an understanding of just what the Drill Clan was trying to do.)

As for Yuri and Kumi, I bought the idea that they didn't fuse because it just wasn't in Kumi's nature. She knew that Yuri didn't want to have anything to do with aliens, so it just wouldn't be right to force her, especially since we've seen what happens when Yuri is forced to grow up/handle aliens back in volume 1. The shipper in me thinks it might've been cute to see them interact as partners in symbiosis, but the writer in me has to disagree with you about how that might've been a more satisfying ending because it would force Kumi to be OOC while potentially traumatizing Yuri (more than she already was) in the process.
