I was in treatment 7 years ago for anorexia and just relapsed. I'm vegetarian but I still can't quite get the hang of eating normal without eating a bit too much or way too little. .... Does being a vegan keep your weight in the lower range with a normal intake? I assume it would with the lack of processed food but I never know if the calorie intake of vegans is just lower because of the foods.

I hope she's lost it the healthy way too but I sort of doubt it. She's vegetarian so it's possible, but I don't think she's at a healthy weight at all.... Even though she looks extremely good. Probably too thin and unhealthy- but awesome looking.

Ooof, girl, I can see the ED coming out here clear as day, I really hope you're getting help right now. First, you're trying to get more info on enabling your disorder, asking if eating vegan allows you to prevent weight gain while still taking in normal portions. Then you say she's 'awesome looking', when in truth now she looks a bit dried-up and wrinkly without the extra fat - like a dried prune compared to juicy peach. You just can't see it because of your dysphoria.

Agh, SA as above - dysphoria was the wrong word. My bad, I meant dysmorphia.

Yes, I agree with the previous 2 posters. As a recovering anorexic and bulimic myself, I know telling you "get help" will do little good unless you are in the right mindset to listen. But I'm going to tell you anyway <3

As for the vegan thing, it can make you gain a ton of weight or lose a ton, healthily or unhealthily. It depends on your body. I just know for me, being vegan helps me recover from my disorder because I like to be in control of what I eat. I used to get this control from starving, now I get it from planning. Thinking carefully and planning my vegan meals actually encouraged me to eat MORE and to pay attention to make sure I was getting all the nutrients, since recovery from anorexia can actually be really dangerous (as I'm sure you know.) That was just a thing for me. My therapist is aware that I do this and is okay with it.

I'm not okay yet, but I'm working on getting there. The vegan thing is really just a drop in the ocean compared to all the other stuff (medication, therapy, support, whatever). I really hope things work out for you anon <3

I feel like I could have written this. People sometimes assume that being vegan is just an excuse to avoid eating certain foods, but really, it helps with coaxing me to eat because I feel better about it on an ethical level, and it also lets me have full control of what I'm eating. It helps me make peace with my food, and I feel a LOT healthier because of it. I also am very religious about reading ingredients verses labels. I can happily eat a vegan cupcake with organic and/or healthy alternatives rather than low-cal egg whites or whatever.
