Colorblind casting? They choosed a blond, white girl to play Katniss, and she refers to herself as dark skinned several times in the book. And they choosed also a white guy to play Gale. I mean, if this casting is anything, is just plain racist.

I get that. I wasn't really referring to THG. I just watched Thor last night and Kenneth Brannaugh's comments on casting were in my head.

My bad.

I actually wanted Hailee Steinfeld to get the role, but what do I know. Hollywood sucks.

Katniss is described as having brown hair and fair eyes. Her sister and mother are blondes. Katniss is, at the VERY GODDAMN LEAST, half white. And since she and her sister have the same two parents, and her sister is a blonde, AND there was never any special mention of the two sisters being distinctly different races (which their would have been if there was something as extremely rare as siblings with different races going on), we can very safely assume she's just white with an olive/tan complexion. It does happen. It's not even rare.

JFC, pretty soon they're going to have to start dumbing books down even MORE just so they don't piss any of you morons off. "Katniss, who was white, said to Rue, who was black..."
No. There's a reason people don't write like that: it's stiff and distracting. Power your brain on before reading and understand how to read context clues.

JFC; Katniss was purposefully described BY THE AUTHOR as 'racially ambiguous.' Just because her sister and mother are fair skinned doesn't mean that she couldn't have been played by a freaking non-white actress (because genetics? HOW DO THEY WORK? It's entirely possible for bi-racial children to look completely different. WHO KNEW?). Maybe someone else should learn to read context clues.

I thought the reason they casted Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss is because her actual take on the character. While I'm sure race was subconsciously part of the decision, I believe the primary reason is because they just liked her interpretation of the role.

Then again, I've never read the books and only know about this stuff because of Tumblr, so feel free to ignore the hell out of me.
