I'm not the OP so I don't know their reasoning, but sometimes seeing a Doctor in itself can be a trigger. It may sound weird, but I went through a very rough time with Doctors when I was young to the point that I am very uncomfortable with them now and even have a few fears about Doctor visits. I try my best to get over it and go, but it's enough that I really don't visit the doctor unless I absolutely have to (and since I don't currently have insurance "absolutely have to" hasn't come around too much in the past few years.)

Plus a "kink in your thinker" is not always easily fixed, or rather, not fixed at all. Often times at best doctor visits are like putting a tiny band aid on that broken leg metaphor you're using. It can be frustrating and can exhaust you more then the depression itself.

Just adding to this: doctors sometimes can't help - but sometimes they are also actively harmful. Still, I have this to say, to the OP if they're reading this, and you're not seeing a doctor because of past experiences: I know it's hard. I know doctors can be just as ignorant and harmful as everyone else. But keep trying to get help. Especially since you're having suicidal ideation. Call your national mental health service if you have one - they might be able to give you the names of services and doctors that will help you, not patronize or ignore you.
