And I'd be willing to bet the majority of people who kick up a fuss about so-called ableist words aren't in any way disabled or handicapped themselves. I don't know how many people have gone off at me (online and irl) for using words like "lame" even though I walk with a fucking cane.

If hearing someone say "lame" is all you've got to worry about, you've got it pretty fucking good. Try entering a building that doesn't have a ramp when you can barely lift your leg an inch off the ground without great pain/weakness, try getting stuck in the middle of a store with extreme pain and needing someone to carry you out of the store like a fucking baby, try wanting to go for a simple trip to the corner store and having to plan out every minor detail of the trip just in case your disability causes you to fall/injure yourself/embarrass yourself/get stuck on the ground for extended periods of time/etc

lame

just because YOU aren't offended doesn't mean others who are disable aren't offended

you are not the spokesperson for lame, jackwipe, you don't get to talk for the rest of us.

(Anonymous) 2011-11-26 08:37 am (UTC)(link)
They're not the spokesperson for lame, but neither are you. Just because YOU are offended doesn't mean others will be, etc.

(Anonymous) 2011-11-26 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
It's interesting that you insult and speak down to someone who does have a disability just because they share a different opinion than you.

Just because you are offended by something, doesn't give you the right to be rude and insulting to others, nor does it make your opinion more valid than anybody else's. Not only does insulting people not want to make them listen to what you have to say, but it doesn't help getting your point across either.

go back to tumblr SJA radicals, asswipe

THIS!!! You do have to be somewhat privileged if all you're willing to do is get all upset about language. Language evolves, you know. It doesn't always mean what it meant a long time ago.

There are lots of issues that face disabled people, so why not worry about those real issues, like accessability, instead of arguing with people on the internet about a word or two that someone might kind of get offended by?

And I'm willing to be that a lot of people who get offended aren't even disabled. They're just assholes.

(Anonymous) 2011-11-26 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
It's hilarious how wrong you are.

Language evolves? So I can call you a retarded fag, and as long as I mean stupid and not actually disabled?

TIL: people can't be real-life activists and give a shit about things being said on the internet. Thank you for showing us how tiny your world is. It's like Tinkerbell up in there, isn't it? Where you can only have one thought at a time.

TIAL: that if I call a hispanic man a nigger he isn't allowed to be offended, because he's not black. And in fact if he does get offended he's probably just a SJ asshole. Gosh!

I feel the need to point out many people don't know that "lame" originally meant someone disabled until an SJ warrior points it out to them.

I certainly didn't know until someone told me. And even in my most advanced lit classes in high school, if we were reading an older book and a character was described as "lame" (in the original, disabled sense), at least half the class always had to ask what that means. Even my 90-something English teacher would describe it as "a really old world for me [disabled]".

We call people out on using "gay" as an insult because gay still means homosexuality, and when they say something is 'gay', they are implying it is associated with homosexuality and that makes it a bad thing. Lame rarely means disabled today.

Retarded is somewhat in a transition phase - people often know it means mentally disabled, but when people use it, they do mean stupid, as no one uses the word "retarded" to describe someone who is mentally disabled, and when they use it as an insult it is not by associating the target with mental disabilities but plain old stupidity. Most kids today learn its original meaning much later on than when they first realized it meant stupid.

So yeah, you can call me retarded, and as long as you mean I'm stupid and not actually mentally disabled, I'm not going to call you out on it. Because fag is still about using homosexuality itself as an insult, though, I'll have issues with that part.

Anyone read Orwell's 1984 lately?

Another crip anti-SJ anon here; I'd be willing to bet most of these pre-adolescent whinging TABs are either midway through their "Disability Studies" degrees, or that they are the festering demonspawn of the same sort of smothering, codependent, flat-out EVIL social workers I've had to contend with, in my day.

TL;DR: NOTHING ABOUT ME WITHOUT ME SJers.

(So, the entire '80s was "ableist" then was it? Because "Laaaame!" was used by everybody. Myself included.)

The whole SJW thing is so much like the Newspeak in 1984, all I can do is shake my head, and wonder.

Not to mention that one of their biggest "heroes" turned out to be a vile rapist piece of shit. who is theo? one of kynn's evil reincarnations?

You absolutely sicken me. I bet you're trolling with this stuff in the hopes that he'll see it someday and be horribly triggered.

lol what?

(Anonymous) 2011-11-27 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"lame" is only used for disabled animals, like horses

don't know why humans get offended when I say that was a lame movie, label of lame is not being applied to anybody human

must defend the honor of the horses
