(Anonymous) 2011-11-26 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)Also, it made me hate the phrase "You're kink is not my kin, and that's okay." I don't care what people do on a kink meme, or in a story where those kinks are clearly labelled so I know what I'm getting into, or what people are doing in real life with partners who understand those kinks or may share them and participate in good, healthy sex with each other. But when I'm ranting about a story that has rape right the flying fuck out of nowhere, I don't want to hear someone say, "Well, some people have that as a kink!" I know, okay! But they are a still a person who should know when it's appropriate to talk about their kinks or sex lives, and that wasn't a fucking apppropriate time!

(Anonymous) 2011-11-26 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)In my experience, a rant on ffr about unwarned-for rape in a fic will not be construed as the ranter engaging in kink-shaming.
If you actually had somebody call you a kink-shamer because you objected to unwarned-for rape in a story, and then the name-caller wasn't confronted about it by another poster or a mod, I'd be really, really surprised.
Link, please. Or GTFO.

(Anonymous) 2011-11-26 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)something that continues to confuse me to this day.
people on that comm, for the most part, claim to be writers.
and yet they can't come up with better terms for their displeasure than to fall back on hurtful language? are they really that small minded? are they really that ignorant? do they really want everyone to see the depths of their lack of aptitude?
I've seen Harlen Ellison rip someone into tiny pieces and not once did he need to resort to crude, crass, insulting labels. He did it with the command of the English language.
you know...like writers do.

(Anonymous) 2011-11-27 03:26 am (UTC)(link)Speaking of rape
(Anonymous) 2011-11-27 11:44 am (UTC)(link)Half the time if you mention rape and sexual assault in the same rant you're belittling rape victims by lumping them in with sexual assault victims and you deserve a dogpile.
The other half the time, you're championing the rights of sexual assault victims by making sure their voices are not erased and you're a good little SJer who deserves dogpats.
Everyone watches to see which direction the dogpile will go this time, and as soon as they can tell they all join in on that side.
Male rape is all weird too.
Half the time any mention of male rape victims, no matter the context, is "derailing" and taking the attention away from female rape victims and a dogpile happens.
The other half the time, you're being a brave and good SJer by acknowledging males can get raped too.
There is no way to ever be right, except watching to see which way the dogpile starts and only joining in once its going.
Questioning the dogpile is the ultimate ffr sin.

(Anonymous) 2011-11-29 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)Proud feeling of being the chosen people, of possessing the exclusive truth or means of salvation, or being superior to those outside the group. Heavily polarized “us-them,” adversarial thinking, projection of one’s own shadow qualities onto others, seeing outsiders as homogeneously negative, devoid of positive qualities (“they” are “bad” and “we” are “good”). Rigid boundaries and isolation between insiders and outsiders. Petty criticism, stereotyping or devaluing of outsiders.
A chronic need to find and persistently maintain enemies inside or outside the group. Targeting or isolating of anyone inside or outside the group as a source of evil or contamination or “bad energy.”
self-pitying feelings of being persecuted and misunderstood by outsiders
Orwellian system of informers who convey information to leaders about persons behind their back. Machiavellian techniques of setting members against each other or against outsiders. Ganging up on individual members to criticize or humiliate or coerce them; “working on them” to violate their own sense of conscience or autonomy. Brainwashing or mind-control techniques or high-pressure group dynamics coercing members to conform to a worldview, agenda, or code of conduct.
Physical orpsychological violence. Giving and withholding of love or praise as a manipulation technique. Frequent testing of members for loyalty, commitment, or obedience.Abusive, domineering top-dog leadership. In healthy groups, the leader(s) functions more as an advisor and inspirer rather than as “control freak” dictating how members should think and act. Members are never threatened or subordinated in ruthless, bullying manner.
Suppression of dissent, doubt, critical thinking, sincere questions, discussion or independent judgment.
Intellectual parochialism or isolation from other worldviews;
Orwellian double-speak (Deikman: “manipulating language to suggest a meaning and value opposite to the real situation”). Codewords or buzzwords. Excessive use of slogans to bypass critical thinking. Manipulative rhetoric based on cunning or emotionalism. Reinvention of language—e.g., excessive amount of jargon—to widen gulf between insiders and outsiders and exert mind-control.
Legalistic obsession with myriad rules.
