Why the fuck is it my responsibility to ~patiently educate~ some ignorant bigoted asshole (for example, danubee - see up thread to see what I'm talking about) when I'm trying to just go about my life without dealing with offensive asshats everywher I turn?

If someone thinks it's funny to joke about my sexual orientation or makes sexist comments around me, why the fuck is it my responsibility to 'be the bigger person', step back, and patiently spend several hours calmly explaining why what they said is so offensive and hurtful? Why does it make me 'just as bad as them' to say "hey, you know what, that's shitty and hurtful and you should quit fucking saying it"
