I think a lot of fandom buys into the whole "rap is misogynist and materialist and violent and I can't identify with it because I'm a middle-class suburban whitey" thing, which is disappointing but not surprising.

Probably. IDK, the same can be said for a lot of other things that people fan over, like Supernatural or whatever, or even just other musical genres, so I don't get why rap gets that reputation.

But yeah, you've got a very good point. Plus I think music is held to a different standard then other media - violent & misogynistic movies & tv shows don't get the same kind of negative reactions that music gets. Which is odd & rather interesting.
