You're probably right that age has nothing to do with shipping RPF, but I will say that in some cases, immaturity is certainly a contributing factor. I've known a few shippers who were just selfish about it, like "why should I stop writing about these people just because they don't like me writing bestiality porn about them and their dog and then showing it to them? It's my fantasy."

Frankly, I find those sorts of RPF shippers on the same level as people who write fanfiction when the authors have specifically forbidden it. Just kind of rude, selfish, and immature.

(I can't stress enough that this applies only to some RPF-ers, though.)

I was almost with you until you wrote "people who write fanfiction when the authors have specifically forbidden it".

People write whatever they're inspired to, that's the very thing with inspiration, you don't always control it - and it tends to stem from things you like.
I'd only consider it rude to post it where the author could find it.
