Actually, River/Shepard Book DOES seem like it'd be kind of interesting...I dunno, they've just got such a strange dynamic, I think it'd make for a good fic in the hands of a competent writer.

Yeah I think fic written about them would be really interesting, but I don't think I could handle them fucking. The age difference (and... authority difference, I guess) is just too weird, but I would enjoy the hell out of The Adventures of River 'n Book.

Book was awesome though, but I could never in a million years imagine him with River, since we've never see her all there in her mind. And Book says there's a special hell for people who would take advantage of that. I guess potentially I could see her having a crush on him.

HEE! Well, to be fair, every single one of those black guys DID have a particular (and interesting) dynamic with her. (....I just realized the Operative never actually met her. Weird. Shame. She was the one he was hunting, and it's Chewie, he would have rocked any possible scene Joss threw at him. Would've been cool to watch)

I think it's testament to Chiwetel Ejiofor that I came out of Serenity not only wanting more of the Operative but actually feeling a kind of sympathy for him too. Mal and the others had operated outside of the system for so long, had been on opposing sides in a war, etc., that, sure, finding out about the Reavers was shocking, but not devastating. For the Operative, who had existed on the knowledge that even if he couldn't live in it, he was at least keeping a better world for those that were not him - JFC, how was he upright after that?

Agreed, he's a fucking stunning actor. My little brother randomly put on the movie tonight (I was SO PROUD) and (...spoilers) when Mal uploads the video at the end there's a shot of the Operative just sitting there staring, and I never noticed before but his eyes are slowly filling up with tears. Amazing.

Anyway, he probably fell on his own sword after the ending. It fits but it actually manages to be sad too.

So, let's see: You ship her with a father figure, an insane psychopath and an SS-Officer. I don't see racism, just the usual bullshit shippers always pull, completely removed from the characters and only tangible related to the series at all.

Hmm. I can see how some of these would be interesting (although largely fucked up) dynamics. Particularly the Operative - he's a sociopath, but he adheres to such an absolute set of rules that it'd be interesting to see how River could test him. I doubt it'd end well though, lol.

Anyway, I can't judge - I ship Rayne like it's my job. :P

Why...is that racist? Those are all interesting characters. I'm a little worried that you ship her with a would-be rapist, but I'm sure I've heard of/like/have written far worse ships.

I see River as having a crush on Mal that develops as her character progresses throughout the series and movie.
