Self-absorbed assumptions. Right. (Because Kotetsu's utter failure at communication and trust issues had nothing to do with it. Nope, nothing at all. Nor did Bunny's general mental state at that time.)

If you were anything like Kotetsu, you would never think that Barnaby "deserved" that slap. He felt terrible about doing it, and the entire thing was a failure to communicate on both sides. Trying to find a bad guy in the situation utterly misses the point.

I'd say that it sounds like what you really need is to stop equating your relationship to theirs and try to work it out with your friend, but if your first thought when you see them around is all the times you would have felt justified in hurting them, they're better off without you.

You're nothing like Kotetsu; Kotetsu was miserable about hitting Barnaby and loathed himself for doing it. You'd like nothing more than to be able to hurt your 'friend' and get away with it. Furthermore, you've got another fucking thing coming if you're trying to write off what Barnaby was going through as some kind of bitch fit tantrum.

Op here- noting that you folks seem to be as good as Barnaby and my ex-friend at making assumptions without knowing the whole story. Suffice to say, our situation was not like theirs. I admitted repeatedly to her that I knew I'd messed up (including in this secret, you may note) and got nothing but false accusations. It's because of that I kind of wish I'd been as much of a jerk as Kotetsu was in that scene and just slapped her instead of trying to make things right. But just like Kotetsu, I'm sure I would have felt bad about it later, so maybe not...

Yeah, given how that scene went over with the fandom, probably shouldn't have used that screenshot. Only realized it had a lot of unrelated connotations after submitting, of course. The real point I was getting at is, my friend may have been immature and prone to assuming the worst, and really hurt me, but I can't bring myself to *really hate her. Because we both messed up, and we used to be awesome partners, and it sucks that we can't.

LOL Okay. Blame the people reading the poorly worded, poorly chosen, misrepresenting secret for not being psychic and magically discerning the truth of what really happened between you and your friend.

You gave us a comparison, you gave us a screenshot, you gave us a bitter sentiment and a complete idealization of a character, and that's what we're working with.

Make a stupid comparison and a stupid secret, get called out on it, and then make even MORE stupid assertions in an attempt to handwave all the rightful criticism you're getting.

Well, Barnaby didn't actually have the whole story because Kotetsu refused to tell him and repeatedly made shit up, leading him to the conclusion that Kotetsu was just trying to get him off his hands as quickly as possible. The crap he said before Kotetsu slapped him was an attempt to protect himself and get his walls back up, because it looked to him like the person he was closest to and trusted the most actually didn't like him all that much after all. He thought Kotetsu hung the moon at that point and only "assumed the worst" because Kotetsu got caught in a hole and when asked, "Hey, what's up with the hole?" pulled out a shovel and started digging frantically.

What I'm getting from this is, "Actually, my friend and I and our situation have nothing in common with this fandom at all, but I wanted to complain about our breakup on Fandom Secrets!" It's, uh, generous of you not to really hate her and all, but comparing her to Barnaby only makes you look like the one with the shovel. That probably wasn't your intention, but then, trying to present a situation to total strangers in the context of two fictional characters doesn't leave anyone a whole lot to work with aside from that.

Since when is saying someone is like Barnaby a bad thing? I rather like Barnaby, as a matter of fact. He has faults, so does Kotetsu, and they both have many good points as well. They are both flawed, interesting characters.

The reason it was a fandomsecret is because while writing fic, it occurred to me that my ex-friend has a lot of Barnaby's issues, and I have a lot of Kotetsu's issues (though not so much with the honesty; if anything, I was too honest with her when she would rather have heard lies). I sometimes wish I'd been less of a doormat for her and stuck up for myself instead of falling over myself trying to satisfy her, considering how much of my time I spent trying to help her with her problems, the way Kotetsu was trying to help Barnaby through his. And well, seeing as she won't talk to me anymore, and it's no one else's business, it's something I'm not going to talk about with anyone I know but I just wish I could say it to SOMEONE, it can be said to be a secret. And the parallel with my current fandom, and the realization that our usual pattern for choosing characters would have been dead wrong, struck me while writing fic. Thus it seemed to have SOMETHING to do with fandom.

And yes, the secret was poorly thought out and poorly worded. I guess that's one way I'm indisputably similar to Kotetsu. :P I have a stupid kneejerk emotional reaction, make a fandomsecret, and it's worded in such a way that people think I mean something I don't and that I'm a total ass.

because kotetsu's a shining beacon of how someone should handle interpersonal relationships right? especially since he never tells anyone what's bothering him, he internalizes everything only to have it blow up in his face.

honestly, your "friend" knows herself better than you, believe it or not, and if she feels like she's more like kotetsu, then i'm sure she has her reasons.

and also, you're kind of an asshole for thinking that she "deserves" a slap. even if she did use you, at least acknowledge this and hope for the best for her.
