Does that ever get shown, OP? I can't think of a single TV show or film where it has been off the top of my head. SPN joked about it, and a few books mention it, but....

[identity profile] helenadax.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Six feet under did it. And Game of Thrones will do it. But it's one of these things I really don't need to see XD It's gross enough to know these things happen.

Pretty sure they show pee coming from a dead guy in Phantasm? That's the only example I can think of though, and it's a really old movie. I can't imagine them doing it on TV.

I change adult diapers for a living so that stuff squicks me less than most people but I have no complaint that they leave it out either.

(Anonymous) 2011-12-06 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
And of course, South Park did in it a few episodes.

[identity profile] smittenlotus.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
South Park made fun of it, but that's all I can think of. I really don't think you have anything to worry about, OP.

(Anonymous) 2011-12-06 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
I'm actually kind of always waiting voided bowels and stopped blood flow when characters die, gross as it may sound. Not because I enjoy the idea, but because the thought "hey, but what about this?" always jumps into my head and interrupts those touching "cradling the dead boy" scenes that happen. When the body doesn't do dead body things, it immediately snaps me out of the moment, because my mind knows they aren't really dead.

Just once, I want realistic dead body, okay? :|

[identity profile] cloud-riven.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Same here, I want more realism even if it's gross. Dead bodies are gross.

Sure it'll probably kill the dramatic moment when some character is romantically carrying a body in their arms for a long time, but they really should know better.

Yes, this happens so frequently that I can see how you would be anxiously awaiting it every time.

(Anonymous) 2011-12-06 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
The only show I've seen do this was south park in one episode

I think you're okay

(Anonymous) 2011-12-06 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
You know, I'm not ever sure where this idea of a massive posthumous shit-storm comes from...? Unless you are physically holding back a massive bowel movement right before death, there isn't going to be much working it's way out. I cannot tell you how many compacted rectums I have seen in cadavers (disclosure: I'm an anatomy professor - it's an occupational hazard). Urine is a different matter - but it's a slow leak and not a massive pants-pissing...

In short, OP - I don't think you need to worry. Hollywood is gross enough as it is without portraying mythical pants-pooping >.>

The only death I've ever dealt with was a pet's, and so I never thought about this being possible in humans, and this thread really freaked me out, until you replied to it. Now I can at least let the thought go and not worry about this next time I see a death scene. D: Thank you.

People have all kinds of strange ideas about butts. Have you ever been in on a discussion about anal sex among people who are trying to explain why it's icky? Hilarious.

I don't like to think of that shit either, so you're not alone.

[identity profile] xelestri.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
You don't like talking about it but you think about it enough to make a secret about it...

/side eye

[identity profile] xelestri.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
I misworded that, I think...I mean more, you say you don't like thinking/talking about it, but you do enough that you made a secret about it, so clearly to some extent, you do like thinking about it lol.

This is a problem I have with my realism vs. suspense of disbelief. When a character who dies doesn't release their bowels I get a little bothered and want to criticize them for prettying up death. At the same time, I release a huge sigh of relief, because the last thing I want to see is a character I like die and then soil themselves as a way to add a cherry on top.

[identity profile] sensualcoco.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
I'd only worry about this possibly happening on shows that are gratuitously gorey or gross.

(Anonymous) 2011-12-06 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Not even Bones, the tv show I can't watch while eating meals because I get so sick, talks about that kind of stuff. So I don't think it's terribly common. It's out there, I'm sure, but not very common.

(captcha: And how exactly am I supposed to type in that Chinese symbol?)

[identity profile] mskye.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha I remember this happening in Venture. Bros. "Yeaaaah... that's the part they don't show in the movies."

[identity profile] pureaddiction.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
That was exactly what I thought of first.

HONEST QUESTION

(Anonymous) 2011-12-06 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
How often does that happen in real life? Is it the norm? Only sometimes? Half and half?

Re: HONEST QUESTION

(Anonymous) 2011-12-06 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
http://fandomsecrets.livejournal.com/801593.html?thread=505265209#t505265209 < seems to come from someone who has handled more dead bodies?

Not having worked extensively with dead bodies, I can't say whether this really, happens, but given that 1) it's hardly universal, depending on how much the person has had to eat/drink in the hours before death, and 2) it's reeeally not something TV and movies like to talk about it, I wouldn't be too worried.

ngl I'm kind of side-eye at the people who are like "More posthumous shitting! It breaks my suspension of disbelief when that doesn't happen!" If that's "realism," I'm just as happy to conventionally leave it out, thanks. @_@

Haven't dealt with too many human corpses, but a sad side effect of keeping pet rats is their short lifespan, so i have plenty of experience with them (almost 20 at this point). A few have died while I was holding them, including the little guy who choked to death on his medication. None of them have peed or pooped on me posthumuously.
