lol oh anon ilu

(Anonymous) 2011-12-06 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
okay, your secret is cute, but let me go on a tangent:

what is it with the idea that if you are studying or working on a field of hard science or a career that is typically regarded as profitable, you suddenly cannot be a fan like anyone else, as if your life and personality automatically became SERIOUS BUSINESS and silliness and relaxation suddenly became off limits??

[identity profile] feanorian.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Some fields of study leave little time for relaxation or silliness - I'm a grad student in one of those fields, and there are 3-4 day periods where I don't get to go home, let alone read fic or fangirl over things. I can't speak for everyone involved, but for me at least it's less LIFE IS SRS BSNS and more "Free time? For silliness? What's that?"

My dad majored in physics in the 1950s and right now I'm arguing with myself about whether to go get him and show him this.

I probably will.

[identity profile] rosehiptea.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
My dad was amused, though he didn't remember Dirac that well, and we had a great conversation that went from physics to World War II. Thanks, OP!

Made my day!

(Anonymous) 2011-12-06 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Dear OP,

Today I got accepted in Med school after beating 62 other candidates, but your secret was the high point of my day.
If you want someone to fangirl about it, I'm avaliable.

Re: Made my day!

(Anonymous) 2011-12-06 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
how the fuck did you know how many other candidates you beat?

...also, rolling admissions...?

Re: Made my day!

(Anonymous) 2011-12-06 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Getting into college in Brazil is a bit different. Every place holds its own admission exam and a few days before they publish how many candidates are running for a spot.

It also works similarly in other countries. The news always tell us how many applicants out of how many got in, and the lists with the students who got in are published.

Oh wow, a science RPF secret that doesn't involve Einstein, Tesla, or Newton/Leibnitz!

[identity profile] feanorian.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
OP, I think I love you.

[identity profile] aachren.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
Omigosh, thank you! I now feel less crazy with my Marx/Engels yen.

(I'm not even a communist or classist!)

[identity profile] rattyrayvn.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
...that's adorable. You'd fit right in with the physics crowd I know ;D

[identity profile] laughinggas13.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
This secret is awesome, OP.

I want fic!

(Anonymous) 2011-12-09 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
YAY for Dirac topping.

So. Much. Yes.

I have spent many an electromagnetism classes thinking about these dudes :D

(Anonymous) 2011-12-15 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too. Also: Bohr/Heisenberg anyone?

[identity profile] sinjah.livejournal.com 2011-12-15 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Again, yes.

Mostly relevant picture of complete awesome:

(Anonymous) 2011-12-16 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
YEAH!

(Anonymous) 2011-12-17 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
fuck yeah.

I once sat next to a person with a laptop in the library whose desktop background was this photo. I felt slightly embarrassed for immediately recognizing what it was. And I almost talked to the person about it, but I was too shy D:

(Also, Bohr/Heisenberg is basically canon, IMO)

[identity profile] notgid.livejournal.com 2011-12-14 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
PHYSICS SHIPPING YESSSSS!

I also do philosophy shipping

And art shipping

I believe I took a very different perspective on my exam subjects than most people :D

(I also believe that Kant and Tesla would have had major chemistry had they ever met.)
