Sore Nari ni Shinken Nan Desu (http://www.mangafox.com/manga/sorenari_ni_shinken_nandesu/) (straight, single father is put into a situation where he must rely on the good graces of a regular customer at the restaurant he works at)

Yume Musubi, Koi Musubi (http://www.mangafox.com/manga/yume_musubi_koi_musubi/) (straight high school kid has a sex dream about his several-years-older childhood friend who's a temple priest and realizes hey this might be worth pursuing)

Love Stage (http://www.mangafox.com/manga/love_stage/) (super popular idol reunites with the girl he's had a crush on since they performed in a commercial when they were little kids--only to realize the girl's actually a boy; fairly standard BL fare for the main couple, but the side couple is one of the most heart-breaking and at the same time unique and fun couples in BL [yay for sex-positive bottoms in BL])

And while it's definitely got its fair share of whiny uke stereotypes, the pairing in "The Case of Kisa Shouta" chapters of Sekaiichi Hatsukoi (http://www.mangafox.com/manga/sekaiichi_hatsukoi/) includes a sweet seme and a promiscuous, sex-positive 100% gay uke (as opposed to the ones prevalent in BL who are just ~in love with X, not men in general~). Also the pairing in "The Case of Yokozawa Takafumi".

I dislike many of the tropes described in this secret as well, though I'll read it if the story is interesting enough and the art is good enough. It's always a treat when, as with the above, you can find some that buck the trend, as it were.

I can't think of anything to recommend to you since I haven't read much, but oh my God, when I do find the right kinds for me, I'm, like, all over it like flies on shit, omg- though, if you don't mind reading the written words, there's a few I could recommend for you. :x

Sadly, I'm a much more visual person--and I don't like Japanese BL novels to begin with >_<; (the writing style of the Japanese language is stilted to me, and English translations can't do much to help that even if they're very well done). What are the storylines you're thinking of?

Ah, no this is just original m/m fiction, not a translation of a BL novel or something. One I recommend off the top of my head is Brendan and the Beast (http://archiveofourown.org/works/81858/chapters/109404?view_adult=true)- which is obviously a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, and it's still a work-in-progress.

Then there's No Hero Manual Included (http://s2b2.livejournal.com/152692.html), which is about an ex-villain with this thing for a hero he used to fight with- a lot of humour, written in Piper's (the ex-villain's) perspective.

Yeah, I do like my fantasy-slash. :3

Oh, then that I can work with! I actually only like high-fantasy gay fiction (as opposed to gay fiction in any other setting--it all reads so juvenile and boring to me otherwise), so I'll check those out, since they're close enough XD
