Guess not. I have only been reading this kind of stuff for a few months now. Well, if you know what's good in this genre, I'll just read the ones you recommended in the post below mine and educate myself. :/ I did enjoy KSB a bit, and the vehement dislike for it caught me off guard and hurt my feelings somewhat. I understand why you don't like it and I'm sorry if my recommending it made you angry.

Takanaga Hinako has a number of beautiful, fun series (Bukiyou na Silent is one of my all-time favorites), but KSB was really just a horrific mis-step. In a genre where I can grudgingly accept the 'no means yes' trope in light of tsundere ukes who never would admit out loud that they love their partners or approach them for sex or accept sex with open arms, you're going to have a hard time finding the few with enthusiastic, consensual sex.

But KSB is particularly bad--rape of a friend who trusted them, who had rejected their feelings but was trying to maintain a friendship, taking advantage of someone in a helpless state...all of those things made it particularly bad, and it frustrates me seeing people holding it up as an example of a good series (I think it had a lot of potential to show a relationship that seemed doomed from the start but defied the odds and blossomed--I would have loved to have seen the uke realize through spending time with his friend non-sexually that his homophobia was unfounded, and that if someone loved him enough to work to woo him like that, maybe it was worth exploring. Unfortunately none of that happened -_-;).

Sorry to jump on you--and if you're really new to the genre, I feel bad for reacting so sharply :/ This is just one of my really hot trigger buttons, so I felt the need to make my case.

I am pretty new to it, well at least in terms of "official" BL manga. I acquired slash goggles years ago after watching RvB, but I kept to fanfic. Fanfic is a LOT different than BL manga, and the kind I read had way more sexual equality than what I saw in the few BL series I attempted to read. Anything with a really girly, delicate-looking uke annoys me and I guess I latched onto the first one I read that didn't have an uke that looked pre-pubescent, which happened to be KSB. I could tell it wasn't exactly "good" with the rape and blackmail, but it wasn't as bad as the stuff I tried to read before, so I just ignored it. I should probably just go back to fanfic.

There are a lot of really good, fulfilling series out there, but it seems like for every great one, there are 10 that make you want to claw your eyes out or that are easily forgettable due to caving to stereotypes. You'll find more decent slash fic in any given fandom, likely, than you will decent, non-problematic BL series put together.

That being said, I highly recommend using threads like this to trawl for reccs of really good, non-stereotypical series that hopefully can redeem the genre in your eyes :) I only recced the ones that fit the OP's request here, but a lot of my very favorites (some which follow the trend but have other redeeming factors) I recced in my personal journal a while back here (http://fencer-x.livejournal.com/815980.html) if you're interested.

Also just dropping in to recc Mede Shireru Yoru No Junjou which is just slightly trope-y with it's characterization but actually explores a lot of darker themes you'll see in yaoi without applying them to the main characters and having a relationship that doesn't start with sex, and doesn't revolve around it in the least.
