I always recommend Heart of Thomas to people who are fed up with BL tropes. It's not remotely pornographic, but rather about drama and feelings and character development. And if nothing else, you'll find it a breath of fresh air due to it being from the 70s (really, if you can find any clichés in Moto Hagio's manga it's because she thought them up in the first place).

Also surprised by the lack of Fumi Yoshinaga recs, I thought she was everyone's first pick for super hot yaoi that actually has interesting characters!

In the not-BL-but-could-be corner, read Banana Fish right the fuck now. All of you. It's an amazing action-packed shoujo series with an epic almost-romantic bromance.
