I was thinking more along the lines of strategic shooting and costuming, like they did it in the 1930-1960s, with maybe a little help from modern tech. There is NO REASON a character who has heretofore exhibited zero interest in and/or antipathy toward babies/marriage/domesticity should suddenly decide "wow I must have kids" because the actress has become pregnant. Tiffani Thiessen in White Collar managed to be pregnant without her character having to be. It's so not impossible or a good excuse for bad writing.
