It has a history of being crazy and rabid about shipping but I think most of the angry people have left. I haven't seen a real, vitriolic fandom shipping argument in Geass fandom in years (well, maybe not years plural, but a long time).

Just stay away from the crazy shippers, OP. If someone gives you the idea they take shipping Lelouche/Kallen, Lelouche/CC or whoever seriously, avoid them. It's really not that hard.

Agreed. I don't know much about this fandom, but if it's anything like all the fandoms I'm in, there are some crazies who ruin it for everybody and then there are nice people, if you know where to find them. Never let anybody else's opinion ruin your head canon.

And off topic...but I'm loving all the Code Geass secrets lately! I just started watching it last week and I'm hooked. New obsession/guilty pleasure. Have there been more secrets for it recently or have I just started noticing them since I started watching the show?

No, there has been a marked recent increase. I'm a pretty big fan so I typically comment on every single Geass secret without fail, and I've noticed it too. There are TWO Geass secrets today, and there was (sort of) another yesterday!

The current fandom is pretty tame and accepting, at least where I am (LJ and to a lesser extent Tumblr). Oh, you used to get eaten alive in shipping wars, but now everybody's a lot more easy going about it. There are also a lot of people who like asexual Lelouch.
As long as you don't try to push your headcanon on other people, or look down on people who don't think of/write Lelouch as asexual, or are one of those people who likes asexual Lelouch to "spite the fangirls" (and yes I have seen this!), I don't think anybody really minds.

Hey, as a newbie fan, I am curious...where is a good place to get involved with the Code Geass fandom? IS there still an active fandom? I'm almost done with the show and I can't wait to check it out.

I suggest finishing before you do anything. The last three episodes are nuts and you will get spoiled for everything in like five minutes. Unless you're already 100% spoiled by the internet or friends or whatever in which case go right ahead.

The fandom is actually still alive but you hear a lot of talk about how it's dying. It's certainly not the bee hive it was in its heyday, but I also think people exaggerate how much it's "dying."

The best place to get involved, oddly enough, is probably the kinkmeme/anon meme which can be found here (http://cgkinkmemeii.livejournal.com/). You'll have a great time if you like Suzaku/Lelouch (frequently written there as 00 for brevity)
This is the newest page of the Discussion post. (http://cgkinkmemeii.livejournal.com/1213.html?page=14#comments) So yeah, start a thread about whatever you wanna talk about, or head over to one of the main threads and post a prompt or write a fill. It's very easy-going (wank happens occasionally but hey, this is the internet). Most of the regulars are BNFs, like the mod yinake, shirogiku, and scribblestorm ...I also know rex_sun and snowdevil_crow hang out there too. I don't know if fire_rose17 and drakyndra frequent the kinkmeme or not, but they post fics on the main LJ community (http://code-geass.livejournal.com/). There are tons of people at the anon meme but since it's anonymous, I'm mostly going by the frequency with which people later de-anon and re-post kinkmeme fills under their own name.
Most of the big fics on LJ and FF.net are posted on the community; feel free to check out the tag list (http://code-geass.livejournal.com/tag/) which sorts fanfic by pairing. The discussion post also has some rec threads, many near the end too, so looking through those should give you a pretty good idea of the really popular fics. Most of the big fics fill a different pairing and genre niche.
