i was with you up until that last part. sorry but I'm also not down with changing yourself for ~true love~ any more than i'm down with getting with some one with the intention of changing THEM. Love should be about growing together, not compromising who you are.

Yeah, that made me pause as well. Partners should meet in the middle instead of one person doing all the changing. I feel like Carolyn Hax would have a field day with this secret.

This. The bottom line is in a relationship you make compromises, but it doesn't warrant necessarily changing who you are. I know people who stopped drinking not just for their partner, but because they realized it had to stop. When you change something about yourself, it should never be just for somebody else. I've learned this the hard way, OP, and trust me, if you feel you constantly have to change your identity and what you stand for to appeal to the person you think loves you, you are in the wrong relationship.

I'm hoping it was just poor wording on the OP's behalf, and that they really just meant "you should be the only one to change yourself. Not others".

Because that is something I agree with. Only change yourself if you want to, but don't change yourself for others and don't try to change others yourself.

I don't ship Annie/Jeff at all, but didn't she turn out to be a monster too in that fantasy? I thought that fantasy was more about the Twilight-ish tame the vampire trope than Annie wanting to change Jeff.

That was pretty much intentional on the part of the writers, they like to give the show a ship and then show you why it's messed up, mostly so they can parody things. That's not the only way Annie/Jeff have been shown to not work out, they just haven't gotten as bitter about it as Britta/Jeff did, yet.

I am cool with people shipping whatever on the show as long as they acknowledge that the ships have gotten messed up.

Yea that last line kinda ruined it.

First, you can love someone and want them to change. Loving someone means acknowledging their faults. It doesn't mean you have to accept them. Especially if helping them to change will make them a better person/make their life better.

Second, that's like saying that if you love your partner, you'll just accept their drug use/abuse/ass-hattery and give in to whatever they want. That you should change yourself if you find that you can't accept them how they are. That's just toxic for both of you.

I thought Annie's story showed that she DID understand that she can't change Jeff. Vampire-Jeff reverted back to bloodthirstiness, after all.

I think that in a good relationship, both people are changed for the better.

Uh, if you're expected to change for your SO then they're expected to do the same as well. It's not a one-sided deal.

I'm halfway along S1 and am shipping them so hard TBH. I'm happy to see there will be more Annie/Jeff material in the future.

But then again I also shipped House/Cameron, so...

I feel kinda bad about not giving a damn about shipping on Glee. They ship tease everything and I feel like i'm missing out on squeezing about that.
