Stefan was being mind-controlled. What's Damon's excuse?

I am so tired of this whole, "Stefan should be able to just hurl away Klaus's mind compulsion" thing on the show and in fandom. I'm not even saying Stelena should get back together, but it's not his fault that he turned into such a dick, it's Klaus's.

On the show, it was Elena trying to get Stefan to fight against the compulsion. And to an extent it was working, so it's understandable that she would keep at it, because she's seen him break through it once, as much of a struggle as it was.

In the fandom, though, yeah, that I can't explain away.

I think both relationships are abusive to a degree, but D/E still more than S/E. I fully acknowledge that.

Doesn't mean I can't like D/E.

I ship everyone with everyone in this show, doesn't make me a hypocrite.

I don't ship Damon/Elena, but it's not because it's abusive. Just because I don't.

But you do recall that Stefan was under compulsion from an Original at the time, right? As in he didn't have control of his actions? Sure, he was trying to resist, but it was an uphill battle from the beginning.

In the sense that both Stefan and Damon are rapists and murderers, yeah. It's hypocritical to say that. Elena truly needs to stake them both already. Screw the pretty boys and their manpain. Elena's better than that.

EXACTLY THIS. OK, not exactly - I don't want Elena to stake them, because they are pretty and Damon is a lot of fun. But I personally have always thought that while Damon is worse (morally), Stefan is no prince either. I don't really have many thoughts on the scene from this secret, but I've always just wondered: Was it really so much worse, when Damon immediately told Andie he was a killer and then compelled her not to be afraid, than Stefan meeting Elena and letting her fall in love with him, AND THEN being like "Oh yeah, and I've killed people. A LOT OF PEOPLE. You don't even KNOW. And I liked it. But more on that later..."

Well yes, Damon is still worse. But my point is that Stefan is bad news too, people! If you like one of the Salvitores more than the other, that is your business, but personally I can't see either one as being an upstanding candidate for a boyfriend.

When did Stefan rape someone? Not arguing, I just don't remember that happening. I mean it wouldn't be surprising if he had compelled someone into having sex with him and then killed them, I just can't think of a specific example on the show.
