I loved that moment. Robin's whole storyline that episode was actually pretty wonderful but nothing even close to tops the ending. Especially since it ended up being Ted that was there ... I thought it was going to be Barney and even though I ship Barney/Robin like burning, it being Ted just works a lot better for me.

Yeah, I ship Barney/Robin like burning too, but IMO it would have been super-tasteless and pressuring and nonsensical (not to mention pretty OOC) if it had been Barney, especially given the state of their relationship at the moment. I mean, for a second there I thought it would be all four of them, but then I realized that no, that wouldn't have made sense at all. And after it happened, it was like, duh, of course Ted would do that after Robin stormed out. He always does that, just usually on a smaller scale.

Please, OP. I sobbed. He synchronized the Christmas lights to AC/DC. No matter his douchecanoe tendencies, Ted is one of the best friends a girl could hope for.

Yeah, that's what I love about him. Sure he can be obnoxious and bossy (Lily pointing out that he acts like their dad was a huge 'lol accurate' moment), but when it comes down to it he's probably the most dedicated and caring friend out of the whole bunch, which is saying a LOT, given how great those five, even Barney, are with each other.

Actually, the way the five characters' friendship is portrayed is part of the reason it's one of the very few sitcoms where I can really FEEL why these people keep hanging out with each other (not touching the Barney/Robin mess in season 5 but hey, nothing's perfect). The whole show has a great vibe where you constantly go "hang on, hang on, I've met someone just like that...where was it again?" that is super-rare on TV shows, even ones that do have really great fascinating characters.

I didn't cry. I bawled like a baby. I don't cry at sad things, only sweet/bittersweet things, so when the kids melted away I just sat there completely miserable and destroyed inside, and then Ted was so Ted and the waterworks turned on with a vengeance...jeez I love this show.

Also...eight years? Really? Do you mean, like, never full-out cried because of sadness, or actually never shed tears at all? Because that's...ergh.
