You're saying it like it's a bad thing the movie portrayed hyenas in a bad light. They're hyenas, not people representing a specific group.
Honestly, the only people I see getting offended by this "negative portrayal" are furries.

I like hyenas too, and I thought the ones in the movie were awesome.

Hyenas having a negative reputation can have a negative affect on conservation. I know brown hyenas are an endangered species.

Hyenas having a negative reputation can have a negative affect on conservation. I know brown hyenas are an endangered species. People are more likely to donate to a lion conservation than a hyena one after watching the Lion King.

Ever watched Spielberg's JAWS?
Portraying an animal in a negtaive light can have terrible effects on the species. I still remember the shark hysteria and the many, many killings that took place just because of that movie.
Humans can be dumb pieces of shit at times.

Haha, I could never dislike a type of animal, and I have no idea why. It just feel wrong to me, it's not like bugs and snakes and rats and all the animals that people hate can HELP that they're bugs or snakes or rats. So whenever a certain species is the bad guy in a movie it makes me sad (which is really the dweebiest thing ever, it's not like the animals are going to see it and get offended lol). So while I'm not particularly into hyenas, I've always sort of liked them just cause I can't help but like an animal that gets a bad rap.
But I loved the hyenas in the Lion King, each one of the main three had such a funny, distinct personality. I never considered the shipping, though! I'll definitely be thinking about that next time I watch the Lion King :P.

The hyenas made up a huge part of the film and they were awesome the way they were. A bit negative? Maybe, but to be fair they're not exactly majestic creatures to begin with. I enjoyed every minute they were onscreen.

I skimmed the secret and skipped the "fan" part of "hyena fan" at first. Then I had to double back because I couldn't understand how a hyena could make a fandom secret. Then I laughed. :D
