Yeah. Donkey isn't bad, though-- it's just that he hasn't been in a ton of movies since like, the late nineties, so it's really just his best one in recent years.

Nowadays, yeah, his best roles tend to be animated ones (although he was great in Dreamgirls). But watch his stuff from the 80s and you'll see just how much raw talent he has.

Eh, I don't know, I like his take on Mushu, but Donkey? Meh.

As people said, his roles in the 80s were his best: Trading Places, 48 Hrs., Coming to America, etc.

But after Vampire in Brooklyn, it had been hit or miss but mostly misses. Dreamgirls made me miss him in adult movie roles.

But, in all honesty, I wish he went back to stand-up. Although if his material was problematic, he was a great stand-up comedian. Eddie Murphy RAW is still consider a brilliant piece of stand up comedy to this day.

I'd have to agree. I don't really like his movies I guess. Old and new ones. But for animated character the humour works for me I suppose.

I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with being a really good voice actor. I've heard enough terrible ones that ruin the material, and enough places where a slight change in tone can make all the difference. It's not like you're saying he has no skill.
