Sort of amusing, that if you reframe religious ideas in a no-religious light, that the exact same LJwarriors who'd go nuts defending them, find them inherently ridiculous~

I don't know that it's so terrible that established cultural myths are treated with more respect than individual ideas or non-cultural groups (such as otherkin or furries). Dismissal of the latter doesn't come with the same baggage of racism, ethnocentrism, and colonialism that dismissal of the former does.

The latter doesn't come with the same history of being used to dismiss or subsume the internal other by producing false dichotomies that the former does. Making the former far more in need of dismantling.

I'd also take real issue with the idea that a) Otherkin/furries/whatever aren't a cultural group, and b) that they don't represent a disenfranchised or marginalised group within society.

Though to be clear, I mean that they join these groups because society has otherised them, and not the other-way around. Just look at the rates of homosexuality among the furry community, or presumably mental health issues among the otherkin one.
