tbh, if you've never heard of hinduism (or any other religion where reincarnation is involved) it was a sucky religious studies class.

I think they were referring to the person they replied to, who said they had a religions class. The fact they know nothing about Hinduism speaks a lot about how awful the class must have been...

I've heard of Hinduism. :) This secret just didn't sound like they were talking about Hinduism to me, and reincarnation is a common enough belief; I thought it was a less known religion with some belief overlap.

Oh, I've heard of Hinduism. :) The class I took was just more of a what, why, where, and history sort of thing. The actual beliefs weren't addressed with anything but scientific (and, I'll admit, somewhat clinical) attention, which doesn't match the feeling of belief here (like I said, interesting!) For this secret, it was the longing for a past life part that threw me; I was taught that the ultimate goal was to be removed from the entire cycle, and the idea of missing "your own kind" struck me as...not Hinduism.

If I was wrong, that's okay too (are you OP?). My mistake.

I think you might be mixing up Hindu beliefs regarding reincarnation with Buddhist beliefs. That being said, it's very possible to hold being removed from the cycle of reincarnation as a goal while still experiencing normal human emotions, like missing people.

I don't think she is confusing them, actually. The goal of reincarnation most widely held in Hinduism is to reach moksha through improving the soul, and to get out of the reincarnation cycle.

Of course, missing people isn't specific to any religion, so she might be off about that. Personally, I don't think the secret poster is talking about missing people so much as missing souls they thought they knew in their former lives, which is something else entirely.
