It feels like hating them is missing the point of the show. Even Kyouko and Homura? Especially Kyouko and Homura.

I'm not missing the point, I just don't like Homura. She was badly written.

One wonders how exactly it is possible to like the show in that case, at least on the merits on which it presents itself, but perhaps I'm jumping to conclusions there.

I don't really like the show that much. Kyoko, and Sayaka as well, were what saved it for me.

That's what I was thinking. I can't imagine one appreciating the show very much on its own if one doesn't like the way Homura was presented.

I love Kyouko and Sayaka, certainly, so I'm not questioning that at all. They're great characters.
