...what the fuck? Why is this Kyoko/Sayaka fan bashing necessary? OP never tried to claim that Kyoko/Sayaka is "more canon" so why are you dragging that in here? just that they personally more saw HomuMado as a friendship. tbhany relationship between these girls can be interpreted multiple ways. for instance, some people saw Sayaka as having a crush on Madoka. others didn't. one can do the same with Madoka and Homura or Kyoko and Sayaka. it's not a claim that one is "more canon" unless that's actually said. :/

Kyoko and Homura are very different characters. Homura is more cold and distant, Kyoko is passionate to the point of emotional extreme. some people find one more compelling and the other hard to sympathize with.

just. why the attacks on Kyoko/Sayaka here? it doesn't even compete with Homura/Madoka jfc

Um. Wow. First of all, there's no bashing of anyone in my comment. I used no vitriolic language at all (whereas your comment sort of did). Secondly, all I did was point out an attitude I see often that frustrates me, which admittedly this secret did sort of remind me of.

Regarding Kyoko vs. Homura: I certainly have no issue with someone preferring one girl over the other. Of course that's fine! What I was pointing out was that a lot of people dislike Homura for being mean and uncaring when Kyoko is no better in that regard. Both of them only really show their caring side to one person in the present time. They're similar in that regard, if very, very different in the presentation of it. And there are Kyoko fans pointing out that they dislike Homura in this very thread, so it's not that random.

And I never 'attacked' anyone, but certainly I didn't attack Kyoko/Sayaka. I expressed frustration toward a fan attitude, not anything about the pairing itself (which I like!) or the series.

it comes off as pretty bash-y to go off on things you hate about Kyoko/Sayaka fans when they aren't even things that OP is doing, at least not inherently in the post. :/ so sorry but that came off as pretty obnoxious and pretty damn close to ship bashing, or at least bashing the fanbase for the ship for no real reason. again I ask why you found that necessary. Kyoko/Sayaka doesn't even compete with Homura/Madoka so why even bother with the huffing and puffing about some fans of Kyoko/Sayaka in response to a secret that isn't even doing anything wrong? or does everyone have to ship Homura/Madoka or else?

Kyoko doesn't come off as uncaring, though. not within the first 2 episodes of her introduction, anyway. she shows that she is caring pretty quickly. Homura is cold and detached for most of the show. also some people were irked with how she kept telling Kyoko "oh just get over it, Sayaka can't be saved, this is how life is for magical girls you should know that" and was completely callous to her when, if anyone should understand how Kyoko felt, it's Homura. Kyoko's priority was herself until her change of heart in ep. 0, and she was villainous at first, but she didn't spend 9 episodes being cold and distant, she didn't brush off the others' emotions, and she obviously cared about Madoka, too, not just Sayaka (but it's pretty questionable if Homura gave a fuck about anyone but Madoka). so yeah it's still a pretty valid character criticism.

I just reread this entire thread and seriously? The only person huffing and puffing here is you. I'm sorry I brought it up in the first place. Perhaps it was inappropriate. But your reply was more so, imo. I never made this about competing with Homura/Madoka, so I have no idea why you keep bringing that up.

And Homura was only cold and distant for nine episodes because that's how long it took to get her backstory. It's not fair to act like she was cold and distant for a longer time than Kyoko when she has in fact, lived the same time loop several times and yes, grown increasingly hardened as it went on, but seriously that's not how she was at first. She didn't spend 'more time' like that. We just saw her at her most desperate, basically, because the series was the last of many time loops. Kyoko started out trying to kill someone for no reason except they were on the turf she wanted, and we're discussing Homura being callous? Please don't try to tell me she's the better person here. And honestly, Homura isn't even my personal favorite character.

I love all five girls and love them dearly. It just bugs me when one gets called on their stuff and it's ignored in others. I think that they're all equally flawed and can be equally selfish in their own way, with the exception of Madoka herself. I don't think that any are worth criticizing more than any other. Obviously people are going to have preferences and that's fine, but the continued picking apart of Homura (and Sayaka's) characters while ignoring those same flaws in others is frustrating, and I have noticed it most from Kyoko fans. And yes, OP didn't do that, but as it's been discussed in the replies, I'm addressing it.
