Haven't Jimmy and Timmy become close friends in canon? Not that South Park has much of a set canon, but that's the impression I got.

actually you're wrong on both counts. South Park does have set canon and Timmy and Jimmy are frenemies at best.

Oh, I do believe that Jimmy and Timmy are good friends. But, I mean, I think Cartman and Butters are really good friends (or something) too, even though Cartman has his place with his main gang of four.

There are some minor hints that Tweek hangs out with them... but I agree that the popularity of TweekXCraig is puzzling. Hmmmmh.
Well, perhaps it's the self-projecting of the fandom? Tweek is a big woobie and people probably like the idea that somebody as snarky as Craig may love him.

I mean, as a pairing I think it makes sense why people ship it -- Craig's so chill, Tweek's so... not chill, put them together and comedy gold OTP or whatever. I just don't get why people think they're like childhood BFFs or something too. It irritates me.

fanon is fanon and you're just going to have to deal with it, bro. I'm not sure how closely you watch the show, but in a lot of episodes tweek is in the background with craig and those guys, and for a while he was with them more often than jimmy, so that's probably where it came from.

personally I like that "parallel" a lot but I get that it doesn't float everyone's boat. it must be tough since that pairing is everywhere :/

It is popular because some people can't even watch a thing without having sexually attractive people in it to fantasize about, even if it means making them and the show they are from into a virtually unrecognizable anime pairing fest with a veneer of humorous profanity slapped on, like a bandaid on an axe wound.

I can't speak much to the fandom as it stands now, but I think that the original idea of the group of Craig, Clyde, Token, and Tweek may have come from the episode South Park is Gay - the one with the metrosexual fad and the crab people.

south park...has a fandom? that ships? and draws? who is tweek? who is craig? who are those drawings supposed to be? so confused.

Tweek is the kid with the shirt that's never buttoned right whose parents own a coffee shop. He was more popular I guess in earlier episodes up until he was the second replacement for Kenny when Kenny was dead for a whole season or something, and then he just sort of faded out of prominence.

Craig is the kid in the blue hat with the ear flaps who flips people off a lot. He's mostly in the background, but then whenever there's episodes where the main kids are pitted against a rival group of 4th graders, Craig's usually the leader of the second group. Like in the episode where they started a news show but kept getting beat in the ratings because of something or other and Craig and I think cough syrup was involved.

There's this episode from the late 90's where Kenny tries to take home ec until he gets kicked out and has to take shop class, where the B plot is Cartman & friends trying to organize a fight between Craig and Tweek for no apparent reason. And then I guess they never spoke again for 12+ years, so far as I know.

And I didn't realize I had so many thoughts & feelings about this show, but I've been watching it on and off for what I am just realizing is almost half my life at this point, and oh man that's a little depressing.
