Other than the drastic increase in OT3 ships (Batman/Joker/Male!Harley) not much I'll bet. 'Course they'd have to find someone else for Poison Ivy to lez-out with.

It's kind of weird, but I probably wouldn't ship Poison Ivy/Harley if Harley were a guy, even though I love it as femmeslash.

Me either. They mesh pretty well as women, but I don't see Ivy letting a man get that close.

This secret made me think of the DCU Elseworlds (Thrillkiller) where the Joker is a woman and now I want a comic with a female Joker and a male Harley Quinn.

Yeah I love it. :D DC needs to do more genderbending in their books because I would buy the hell out of anything like that. I also love Catwoman: Guardian of Gotham where they switch Catwoman/Batman's roles as hero/villain and would love to see more stuff like that.

Interesting concept. I'd actually kinda like to see "Harlan Quinzel becomes Harley Quinn" for a while in like an Elseworlds or something, even though it'd be weird trying to think of Harley without including the voice of Arleen Sorkin (because in my mind, Harley always sounds like her).

I think fandom would have been pretty accepting, actually. It's the actual canon, the writers behind the canon, who wouldn't have been so welcoming. If a male character was introduced now with a similar story to Harley's (falls in love with a male villain, the Joker or anyone else), they'd probably be horrifically killed inside of three issues, or as soon as a different writer got their hands on them. Specifically killed in a way that's both disgusting, humiliating, possibly sexual but most definitely intended to highlight them as 'weak'.

I...don't think I'd like that. Not because of the slash aspect, but because I like Harley like she is. (Plus, I love the Harley and Ivy dynamic and think that would be lost with a male Harley.) I'd probably read it, but it would have to be pretty well done to make me like it.

DC will never do it though. I doubt they'd even do a male Harley/ Joker companion in an Elseworld. It's one thing to make a minor character gay when they're stuck in the books, but Joker and Harley are in the books, the animated universe, and even the video games. There's no way DC (or Marvel, for that matter) would risk the shitstorm by "gaying up" one of their big name characters. (That applies more to Joker than Harley, but I still think it still stands.) At least, not yet. Maybe someday.

I'm not sure the Joker can really be gay, or het either. Pretty sure he is Batmansexual.

(old post is old but still) Montoya is in at least the books and animated universe. Not sure about the video games, but still. And then there's Ivy, who's one of the more widespread villians...
