Yes, this! Sometimes the traits that are most fun to read about in fictional people are simply infuriating to experience in real life! Also, there's a chance that the OP is writing 'herself' (the self insert) in a more flattering light...

Yeah. People writing self-inserts are never writing the them that other people deal with. They're writing how they see themselves. And let's face it, no one is that realistic about their faults.

This. And honestly I'm probably sure in her heart of hearts OP's friend didn't mean it. There are a lot of characters that people love but I'm sure they'd want to shoot them after 24 hours if they had to deal with them in real life.
