You know, this is why self-inserts are a bad, bad idea in fiction you intend to let other people see. First, you're never going to write yourself as others actually see you, just as you think you project yourself. Second, what works in fiction rarely works IRL. Fiction is a construct, and ideally, your characters are built with a plot in mind - this is essentially true of OCs, since you are creating them as opposed to putting them in a random situation, like canon characters - and their actions and reactions have a point in the great scheme of things. Real life, sadly, lacks a cohesive plot, much less character arcs or the like. You're not a fictional character. Your reactions are not scripted and I doubt you're as witty or well-timed as most well-loved snarky jackasses can be (House, anyone?) simply because life doesn't have a script.

So don't take it as a personal offense. Also? That trope? Old as dirt. Trust me, I was writing that same trope four years ago. |D
