Since you're here, I have to ask. What do you get out of this? What is it about degrading and deriding a condition that effects a huge number of people that gets your rocks off? There's nobody in my life who has been effected by autism, and I'm not angry or hurt and I don't take your attacks personally. But I genuinely don't understand what's so fun about pointing and laughing at illnesses and health conditions that are beyond a person's control.

I don't think aspergers is a real disease and I enjoy seeing the speshul sno flaiks who claim to have it (on the basis of a three question quizilla test, usually) scream in indignation.

I also think that while autism is real, it is incredibly over-diagnosed, and mainly used these days as an excuse diagnosis by rich parents to avoid raising their kids right. Why bother to do real parenting and make an effort with your kids when a bit of cash buys a diagnosis of autism and they are put on the special-treatment track. It devalues the special needs system for the kids who really are ill, and really need those scarce resources.

I also object to people who use "I have autism/aspergers" as an excuse. I do know kids and adults with genuine mental disabilities, and not one of them uses it as an excuse for fuckwittery. In fact most of them never volunteer that information at all, if they screw up a situation they apologise and try and do better in future instead of being all "nah, s'cool dudez, I has like, tehs ass burger, y'sall be nice to me" like people who try and justify their assholishness do. They piss me off.

coupla things

1. rich parents usually put their special-needs kids in expensive private treatment programs instead of dumping them on the public system.

2. Asperger's is a legitimate disorder on the autism spectrum. other than that, I agree with everything you said, especially re: quizilla and obnoxious shut-ins relying on it as an excuse.

3. what bothers me more than anything is the attempt to turn Asperger's into some kind of secret society where everyone can laugh at the ~normals~ and encourage each other not to mature/seek help/work on their issues. that is straight up dangerous.

Believe me, you can tell them that a million times, flash the fucking assessment papers at them, dump twenty solid pounds of psychiatric records on their lap—Trolls. Don't. Care.

or maybe, you know, there are more autistic people than you think and more doctors are able to diagnose it now that it's more well-known.

and maybe there should be MORE resources in the special-needs system, instead of them being "scarce" because kids who aren't neurotypical deserve an education as much as everyone else.

and maybe you should stop pretending to be the expert on everyone who is and isn't autistic.

So basically you think you have enough medical knowledge to dismiss a widely recognised disorder, just because you've had a couple of bad experiences with people who use it as a trend? Because illnesses tend to go through 'trends', including self-diagnoses (one of the more recent ones was bi-polar, thanks to several celebrities publically speaking about it and a lot of ignorant people thinking that made it 'fashionable'). That's about the equivalent of taking one instance of somebody a different race to you being rude, and you then declaring everybody of that race horrible and not worth the air they breathe.
