I was never really into Fall Out Boy, but I always thought it was cool that someone other than the singer was the sex idol and focus of the band. After Patrick Stump lost the weight, it really angered me that everyone was suddenly acting like that made him such a better person, like he was suddenly worthy of all the attention he had been denied. So I guess I'm completely mixed on whether I feel it's a good thing that he's come into his own or whether it's just a reaffirmation that weight and looks are more important than anything else. But, you know, at least the band didn't pick him because he was the hot guy.

Patrick is really just about as worshipped, possibly even more than, Pete in the actual fandom, and that was far more apparent when he was chubby. It's really more the girls who aren't actually that into the band and the publications that don't give a damn that focus exclusively on Pete.
It's like a sliding scale of die-hard; you go from Pete Wentz to Patrick Stump to Joe Trohman and/or Andy Hurley.

I've seen people who love FOB and HATE Patrick as a thin person, sometimes to the point of not bothering with his actual music. It comes off a little strange, to be honest.

It really seems to me like Patrick doing something without Pete as well as having it be radically different was what drew in the media/exterior attention, and the weight loss was the icing on the cake.
