Except each song was designed to appeal to their target beyond and seperate to any concept of "the power of song. "Abed's need for family happiness, Troy's need for an excuse to join in on the fun he knows is out there, Pierce's vanity, Shirley's need to Proselytize, and Jeff's preoccupation with sex. Considering how obvious and blatant everyone else's seduction was, I really doubt they weren't just as straight-forward with Jeff's.

Late to this, but I thought Jeff's rebuff of the song by its end really did reflect his feelings on it (he's hated things that mark Annie as younger before, like her flavored lip gloss), but he ends up being inexplicably turned for the sake of the Invasion of the Body Snatchers reference when he sees Britta and she thinks he's still normal. We don't get to see what gets Annie or Britta to join, either, but they do, despite clearly being freaked out by the a capella singing directed towards them when we last see either -- I think they just decided to go down the horror-movie trope more than anything with those three.

Which is why I hated that song. Except for the last line (which is gold). It didn't fit either of the two characters involved.
